Moses Asch is born in Warsaw, Poland, Europe. After moving to New York City, USA in 1915, he will become a recording engineer and record business executive, founding Asch Recordings in 1940, which will evolve into the hugely influential Folkways Records in 1948. Folkways will record folk and blues albums by artists including Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, Pete Seeger, Cisco Houston and Ella Jenkins.
