Kraftwerk
The stage play R.U.R. [Rossum's Universal Robots], written by Karel Capek, has its first performance, a production by the amateur theatrical society Klicpera in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, Europe. The play is memorable mostly because it marks the first time the word robot is ever used, having been coined by Capek's brother Josef. The word catches on and will inspire others writers, film-makers and song-writers. Memorable songs inspired by robots include Robot Man by Connie Francis [1960], The Robots by Kraftwerk [1978], Are Friends Electric by Gary Numan[1979].

After moving to Germany he will find succes in the early 1970s as Giorgio Moroder, an electronic pop pioneer, often cited as an influence on Kraftwerk. The contract to design and build Spacelab 1 - a
re-useable science laboratory for space flights - is given by the European Space Agency (ESA) to a consortium of companies from eight European countries under the leadership of the German space company ERNO Raumfahrttechnik in Bremen. Kraftwerk's
1978 song Spacelab is a

European Space Administration astronaut Alexander Gerst has his first interaction with a new artificial intelligence device, CIMON (short for Crew Interactive Mobile CompanioN), in the Columbus Lab aboard the International Space Station.
